The Humdinger RV Show was a Great Success!
BIGFOOT RVs continues to be very strong and we are very pleased to be Canada's #1 dealer. The "XLR" and "VORTEX" line of Toy Haulers are selling extremely well and we have more models and sizes in stock at the dealership.

"The best in show" no doubt was Forest Rivers DayDreamer 5th wheel. This is one of the most talked about 5th wheel RV's of this year. The elegance and styling of this RV is second to none. We have DayDreamers in stock at the Langley dealership so stop in say hello and have a look at some of the nicest 5th wheel RVs of 2008.

Forest River Manufacturing did a great job in the design and styling of their "Cedar Creek" and "Silverback" 5th wheel and Travel Trailers. The ones we had in the show were very well received and we had many people come from the show to the dealership to view more RVs.

Congratulations to the show administraitors and promoters for putting on a great show-----------again!

HIT THE ROAD SAFELY THIS SUMMER:
PROPANE SAFETY TIPS FOR RVERS AND OTHER RECREATIONAL VEHICLES.

With summer here, many British Columbians are gearing up for family road trips in their Recreational Vehicles (RVs) including campers, trailers and motor homes. The British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) and the Motor Vehicle Sales Authority of BC (VSA) are reminding RV users to get their propane systems checked by certified technicians before heading out on the road.

'We want to ensure RV users have a safe summer on the road,' said Wayne Lock, the gas safety manager for the BCSA. 'Propane equipment should be checked and maintained at least once every two years and every time an RV is transferred to a new owner.'

In an RV, propane is commonly used for furnaces, fridges, water heaters, barbecues and stove ranges. Whether renting or buying a new or used vehicle, RV users should look for a blue BC Safety Authority decal confirming that a certified technician has completed a comprehensive propane system safety inspection and has made the necessary repairs.

RVs can be brought in for propane safety checks to recreation vehicle shops that are registered with the Safety Authority; these shops are located throughout the province. The VSA requires all dealers to ensure vehicles are safe before being sold, and supports the BC Safety Authority in advising motor dealers and consumers that any vehicle offered for sale with a propane device or storage tank must display a valid blue inspection decal.

Many VSA dealers have operating permits issued by the BC Safety Authority allowing them to install and inspect propane products, and are required to employ certified technicians to ensure gas appliances are leak free and operate safely.

'Our customers' safety is a primary concern,' said Earl Manning, VSA's Director of Licensing. 'We are working with the BC Safety Authority to ensure all registered dealers perform regular propane safety checks and display valid inspection certificates and decals.'

As with all other fuels, propane should be handled with care and RV users should know what to do in case of a leak or other emergency. Propane gas has a smell like rotten eggs or boiling cabbage and is heavier than air, so when checking for leaks, be aware it can gather in low-lying areas.

Ignition of propane gas within an enclosed space can result in explosion, and it can be ignited by many sources including pilot lights, open flames, smoking materials, electric sparks, and static electricity.

MORE PROPANE SAFETY TIPS:

▪ Familiarize yourself with all safety precaution notices posted in your RV.

▪ Identify all emergency shut-off valves and develop basic emergency procedures for everyone traveling in the RV.

▪ If you think you smell propane, get everyone out of the unit and close the supply valve on the propane containers.

▪ Have everyone leave the RV and get medical attention if anyone shows symptoms of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning (headaches, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, impaired judgment, loss of manual dexterity).

▪ When using a propane stove or oven, open a vent or window and turn on the range hood fan to remove moisture and combustion products (which may contain CO).

▪ Never use stove burners or ovens to heat your RV. They are designed for attended cooking only.

▪ Don?t use portable propane camping equipment in your RV (e.g. camp stoves, barbecues, lanterns, catalytic converters, radiant heaters).

▪ Before entering a gas station, turn off all burners, pilot lights, appliances and automatic ignition devices. Turn off the vehicle engine and have everyone leave the RV before refueling.

▪ Transport propane containers in the secured upright position.

▪ Never use, store, or transport propane cylinders or liquid fuels in the passenger space or living area of your RV.

▪ Don't transport or use propane containers that are damaged, show signs of corrosion, have been exposed to fire, or appear to be leaking.

▪ When buying propane equipment, always ask if the product is certified for Canada, as many products sold outside Canada do not comply with Canadian safety standards.

For more information about RV propane safety and BC Safety Authority registered recreation vehicle shops, visit www.safetyauthority.ca or www.mvsabc.com. A propane safety brochure is also available by contacting your local BC Safety Authority office, or call toll-free 1-866-566-SAFE (7233).

LANGLEY'S CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAYS

Langley's Annual Wine and Cheese Customer Appreciation was very successful once again this year. Approximately 200 people were here and many took part in 'The Game Show' that our energetic, flamboyant entertainer, Cora, hosted. Customers entered their names into a ballot box as they came in and names were drawn for the Game Show. Cora is so much fun and she had everyone laughing through out the evening. Our Grand Prize winner was Ron Richard who won 2 tickets for 4 nights to The Merritt Mountain Country Music Festival. Our very own salesman, Len Fox, served wine and everyone helped themselves to the finger foods that were provided. It was a beautiful, sunny evening so many people took advantage of the opportunity to look at the RV's on the lot and speak to the sales staff.
Saturday was also a great day with many informative seminars taking place. Lorne Holmes started the seminars with info about battery chargers from Sea Tech Products. At 11:15A.M. Lanny Irwin, from the Dometic Corporation, spoke to a large crowd about air conditioners and fridges. Pat Wald of Tork Lift Products spoke about Camper Tie Down Systems and was followed by Al Cohoe from Okanagan College who educated us on Propane Safety in Our RV's. Our shop foreman, Rod Mailhot, presented the last seminar of the day speaking on General Maintenance of Your RV. Factory Representatives, Ernie Kisch from General Coach and Brad Harvey from Bigfoot were here to help customers and inform staff about 2008 models. Lunch was provided and while eating customers had a chance to ask questions and to visit with staff .
To our O'Connor RV extended family, everyone here at O'Connor RV Langley would like to thank one and all for coming in and making this year's Customer Appreciation Days a success!

A March To Remember!

March 12, 2007 was a shocking day for us here at O'Connor RV, Langley. Record rainfall had fallen the night before and the creek running along the west side of the lot could not contain all the water, consequently overflowing its banks. There has been a lot of new development in the area and the culverts along Langley Bypass were not able to handle the enormous amount of water so our entire lot, including the building, were flooded. Imagine coming to work Monday morning to find the mess that had been left behind by the receding waters! Although the water had receded quickly when the rain subsided, it had left a thin layer of mud everywhere! The great staff at O'Connor RV hastily teamed together to clean up the mess and salvage parts so that they could continue serving their customers. There was some damage to the building and to some of the inventory in our Parts Dept. What followed was a restoration of our Parts Dept. as the floor and some of the walls needed to be replaced. They say that 'Every Cloud has a Silver Lining' and this has proved to be true here as well. It has created an opportunity for some great buys in our Parts Dept. Come on in and see our newly renovated store and take advantage of some awesome clearance prices!!!

The Chilliwack Humdinger RV Show was a huge success, we had an unbeliveble attendance increase of 28%. The show was very successful for our sales staff, we sold more RV's at this show than any one can recall at any other show. The show made the dealership quite busy as well on the weekend, even with the nice rainy weather we've been having, Business is booming and we still have some great deals, and with our variety we are sure to find the unit that suits you. So stop in anytime and see what we couldn't bring to the show.

The Chilliwack RV show is now history. Another record attendance. Where will it all stop?
The Langley RV dealership only had 4 Bigfoot Motorhomes on display but our sales were spectaccular. We not only sold some at the show but at the dealership also.

The Bigfoot products continue to amaze us. As a whole salespeople are telling me that's is the easiest RV products that they ever had the pleasure of selling.

Customer satisfaction is extremely positive with repeat buyers raving about the product.

We are getting fresh stock in almost daily.

Before you consider any brand other than Bigfoot do yourself a favor and come in and see what you're missing.

BRITISH NEWSPAPER SALUTES CANADA by Kevin Myers, The Sunday Telegraph, London.

Until the deaths of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan, probably almost no one outside their home country had been aware that Canadian troops are deployed in the region. And as always, Canada will bury its dead, just as the rest of the world, as always will forget its sacrifice, just as it always forgets nearly everything Canada ever does.

It seems that Canada's historic mission is to come to the selfless aid both of its friends and of complete strangers, and then, once the crisis is over, to be well and truly ignored.

Canada is the perpetual wallflower that stands on the edge of the hall, waiting for someone to come and ask her for a dance. A fire breaks out, she risks life and limb to rescue her fellow dance-goers, and suffers serious injuries. But when the hall is repaired and the dancing resumes, there is Canada, the wallflower still, while those she once helped glamorously cavort across the floor, blithely neglecting her yet again.

That is the price Canada pays for sharing the North American continent with the United States, and for being a selfless friend of Britain in two global conflicts. For much of the 20th century, Canada was torn in two different directions. It seemed to be a part of the old world, yet had an address in the new one, and that divided identity ensured that it never fully got the gratitude it deserved. Yet its purely voluntary contribution to the cause of freedom in two world wars was perhaps the greatest of any democracy.

Almost 10% of Canada 's entire population of seven million people served in the armed forces during the First World War, and nearly 60,000 died. The great Allied victories of 1918 were spearheaded by Canadian troops, perhaps the most capable soldiers in the entire British Order of battle.

Canada was repaid for its enormous sacrifice by downright neglect, it's unique contribution to victory being absorbed into the popular Memory as somehow or other the work of the "British."

The Second World War provided a re-run. The Canadian navy began the war with a half dozen vessels, and ended up policing nearly half of the Atlantic against U-boat attack. More than 120 Canadian warships participated in the Normandy landings, during which 15,000 Canadian soldiers went ashore on D-Day alone. Canada finished the war with the third-largest navy and the fourth-largest air force in the world.

The world thanked Canada with the same sublime indifference as it had the previous time. Canadian participation in the war was acknowledged in film only if it was necessary to give an American actor a part in a campaign in which the United States had clearly not participated - a touching scrupulousness which, of course, Hollywood has since abandoned, as it has any notion of a separate Canadian identity.

So it is a general rule that actors and filmmakers arriving in Hollywood keep their nationality - unless, that is, they are Canadian. Thus Mary Pickford, Walter Huston, Donald Sutherland, Michael J. Fox, William Shatner, Norman Jewison, David Cronenberg, Alex Trebek, Art Linkletter and Dan Aykroyd have in the popular perception become American, and Christopher Plummer, British.

It is as if, in the very act of becoming famous, a Canadian ceases to be Canadian, unless she is Margaret Atwood, who is as unshakably Canadian as a moose, or Celine Dion, for whom Canada has proved quite unable to find any takers.

Moreover, Canada is every bit as querulously alert to the achievements of it's sons and daughters as the rest of the world is completely unaware of them. The Canadians proudly say of themselves - and are unheard by anyone else - that 1% of the world's population has provided 10% of the world's peacekeeping forces. Canadian soldiers in the past half century have been the greatest peacekeepers on Earth - in 39 missions on UN mandates, and six on non-UN peacekeeping duties, from Vietnam to East Timor, from Sinai to Bosnia.

Yet the only foreign engagement that has entered the popular on-Canadian imagination was the sorry affair in Somalia, in which out-of-control paratroopers murdered two Somali infiltrators. Their regiment was then disbanded in disgrace - a uniquely Canadian act of self-abasement for which, naturally, the Canadians received no international credit.

So who today in the United States knows about the stoic and selfless friendship its northern neighbour has given it in Afghanistan? Rather like Cyrano de Bergerac , Canada repeatedly does honourable things for honourable motives, but instead of being thanked for it, it remains something of a figure of fun.

It is the Canadian way, for which Canadians should be proud, yet such honour comes at a high cost. This past year more grieving Canadian families knew that cost all too tragically well.

'Just another RV show' I don't think so! The 2007 Early Bird RV show at the Tradex Center in Abbotsford had an unbelievable attendance increase of 22%. When it comes to Trade Show numbers this is really impressive.

O'Connor RV's introduction of the BIG FOOT line of RV's was a huge success. Unfortunately we did not get to talk to all the RV'ers interested in our new line of Canadian built product but the feedback we received from customers was extremely positive.

BIG FOOT RV's fit right in with the other Canadian built RV's we sell, CORSAIR, TRIPLE E and PLEASUREWAY.

The show was very successful for our sales staff. We sold more RV's at this show than any other show in recent memory.

The introduction of our new inexpensive but quality built line of Trailers and 5th Wheel RV's was welcomed by a lot of RV'ers and wanna-be RV'ers on a family income or on a fixed income.

Business is booming and we still have some great bargains. Stop in anytime and see what we couldn't bring to the show.

OUR VISIT TO GENERAL COACH

This winter sales staff from both our O'Connor RV locations went to Oliver, B.C. to have a Factory Tour of the General Coach plant. Our staff were fascinated with the quality of the product and with the conscientiousness of the employees at General Coach. The General Coach staff were very meticulous and our staff were impressed by the superb quality control during the different phases of construction. They were particularly awed with the efficiency of the Polar Pak Winter Package that General Coach puts in their Excella and Supreme models, which is designed for western Canadian climate and conditions. After completing the tour one of our salespeople remarked, "Why would anyone want to buy another brand? I never imagined the quality and care that goes into the building of General Coach units!"

LANGLEY'S VISIT TO BIGFOOT

Wow, was I impressed! I have visited many RV manufacturing facilities during my years in the RV industry. I have never seen a more efficient and quality conscious group of workers than at the Bigfoot plant in Armstrong, B.C. The facility is immaculately clean and efficiently run. You could almost eat off the floor!! The workers were proud of what they were doing. The fit and finish of Bigfoot products was well beyond my expectations. I look forward to selling such a quality product as Bigfoot.
The General Manager, the salespeople and the technicians who visited the plant with me all came away with a greater respect for Bigfoot products. Their enthusiasm I'm sure will generate in more Bigfoot sales!

LANGLEY RV CENTRE SEMINARS...

On Friday and Saturday our Langley RV Centre hosted their annual Open House and Seminar Event. It was a fun night and everybody enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to chat with the O`Connor staff and share experiences with other RV owners.
Caricature Portraits were being created by a graphic artist and they stirred-up wonderful laughter. His business card read....."Cruelty Free and Fun."
Many suppliers were in attendance and they were able to give first hand demonstrations of their products. There were many items that created new interest and the one that caught my attention was the aftermarket "Backup Sensor System". These are a great invention and are now available through our Parts Department and can be installed by our Service Tecs.
The Saturday Seminars were Presented in three sessions: --Solar, Inverters, & Batteries 9:30 to 11:30, --RV Maintenance 11:00 to 12:00, and --Towing, Fifth Wheel Hitches, Equalizer Hitches & Brakes 1:00 to 2:00.
The registration numbers and attendance were fantastic and we really appreciated your company and enthusiasm. We will repeat this weekend next year ...you will be advised of the date by a notice on this web site.

HUMDINGER RV SHOW.....
The fifth annual RV Show at Heritage Park Chilliwack is over and all of the dealer display units are now back at home. The show was a fantastic success and attracted 13,000 guests. This is now the largest show ever in British Columbia both in space and the number of dealers exhibiting.
Although our final accounting has not been completed, our donation to the Chilliwack Community Policing Services will be approximately $7500. Their volunteers do a wonderful job in organizing the vehicle parking and the donations paid as a show entrance fee are then distributed.
O'Connor RV enjoyed a fantastic sales success, and the after show sales are indicating that this will be a great year for our business. We have a huge inventory selection in both new and used with two locations to serve you. Our policy is not to be undersold, so take advantage now and get ready to enjoy by "Going RVing."
Spring and Summer are upon us and travelling with an RV is wonderful for relationship building. The family that RV's together stays together!!

Our ambition has been 'to be the best' in user friendliness by vastly improving navigation. Easy scanning of our inventories, more photos inside and outside of units, current and previous year brochures, an opportunity for you to tell us your thoughts, parts and accessory ordering on line or look for the item and shop in person at one of our stores, helpful links to RV related information sites, and these are just some of the enhancements.
We are passionate about making our communication and purchasing processes as easy as possible for you.
                Regards,
John O'Connor
